Loan officers evaluate, authorize, or recommend approval of loan applications for people and businesses.

Duties
Loan officers typically do the following:
Contact companies or people to ask if they need a loan
Meet with loan applicants to gather personal information and answer questions
Explain different types of loans and the terms of each one to applicants
Obtain, verify, and analyze the applicant’s financial information, such as the credit rating and income level

HOW TO BECOME A LOAN OFFICER

Specialized loan officers include commercial loan officers, who work primarily with businesses; mortgage loan officers, who make loans for real estate purchases; and consumer loan officers, who loan money for large purchases or college. Loan underwriters specialize in evaluation loan applications, and loan collection officers work with customers who fail to make timely payments.
